A nourishing, all-natural lip balm made from just four ingredients: beeswax, coconut oil, sweet almond oil, and a drop of peppermint essential oil. A perfect beginner craft project that makes wonderful gifts and shows off beeswax at its most versatile.

Method

  1. 1

    Melt the wax and oils

Combine beeswax pellets, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil in a small heat-safe glass jar or double boiler. Melt over low heat, stirring, until completely liquid.

πŸ’‘ A repurposed small glass jar in a pot of simmering water works perfectly as a double boiler.
  2. 2

    Add essential oils

Remove from heat. Let cool for 1–2 minutes, then stir in peppermint essential oil and vitamin E oil (if using).

πŸ’‘ Add essential oils off-heat so they don't evaporate.
  3. 3

    Pour into tubes

Working quickly before it sets, pour the mixture into lip balm tubes or small tins. Fill to just below the rim.

πŸ’‘ A small pour spout or a dropper makes this much neater.
  4. 4

    Set and cap

Let the lip balms cool completely at room temperature β€” about 30 minutes. Do not refrigerate or they may develop a grainy texture. Cap when fully solid.

    Label and share

Add a label with the date and ingredients. These keep for up to a year at room temperature. They make incredible handmade gifts.
